Sterilisation
Sterilisation involves the application of a (Filshie)
clip to each of the fallopian
tubes, near the uterus, thereby preventing ovulation. Mr Thonet
uses laparoscopy
in the process of sterilisation.
The treatment is usually undertaken as a Day
Case (admission to hospital and discharge on the same day).
Admission is arranged for just after a period (when pregnancy
is most unlikely) and clip sterilisation is then effective
immediately.
Should sterilisation be performed at other times in the cycle
you will need to
continue the previous method of contraception until after
your next period.
After laparoscopy driving should be avoided
for 48 hours. There is discomfort
for a few days but this can easily be controlled with simple
analgesics e.g. paracetamol and return to work after a few
days is the rule.
Mr Thonet can discuss the exact nature
of your treatment, including procedure
details, recovery times and any possible side-effects at a
consultation. This will reflect your exact circumstances and
needs. The information included here is provided for general
guidance only.
